Hiring Again?

The WayneWho staff is a little confused. Didn't the City of Kissimmee already hire someone for the new position of Economic Development Director? We had heard that the person who was hired to fill this position was getting ready to start? Is it true that all of the wrangling over religious preferences that had hit the national media made the person think twice about signing on with the City of Kissimmee? Maybe Commissioner Otero is correct and a litmus test is just what we need to get the 'right' people hired into the city's ranks. We guess it does not really matter because it gives another local jobseeker a chance for the only job opening at the city.

Job Reference ID: OS22397 at CareerBuilder.com is up and waiting for applications. The position is described as "ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR — CITY OF KISSIMMEE Directs economic development activities & promotes the City's redevelopment initiatives. Major focus on facilitating real estate development within the City's redevelopment areas and airport. Reports to the City Manager or designee. Requires a Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, planning, finance or related field & 6 to 9 yrs of increasingly responsible exp in real estate development, economic development, or a related field; or any equiv combination which provides the req skills, knowledge & abilities. Experience developing mixed use projects is preferred. Bilingual is a plus. Salary $62,572 - $100,643 (DOQ) + benefit package." Wow 6 to 9 years in the real estate and/or economic development fields. Great way to doom the position to failure. Hiring someone who was part of the housing crisis, or part of the pretend world of economic development is a great way to spend $62,572 - $100,643 only to end up with another mouth to feed and no benefits to the public. Oh well, hurry up and get your resumes in because this one will go fast. Don't worry if you don't get hired because Panda Express is hiring restaurant managers and depending on the store, the salary is comparable with out all of the stress. Besides, it won't be long before the 'birther movment', headed locally by Commissioner Otero and Congressman Bill Posey, force local governments into creating a job opening for a 'Citizenship Czar' to make sure Americans from the great state of Hawaii never get elected to office again. This along with the need to hire people to sit on 'Death Panels,' the job forecast is looking better every day. For those of you looking for steady employment opportunities though, our recommendation would still be Panda Express because 'Gourmet Chinese Food' will never go out style.

I don't like the birther comments about Bill Posey. Bill is doing a great job. He did file a bill so that any Presidential candidate would have to make his birth certificate public. This was NOT done as an attack on Obama. In fact it does not even address the current President. It would take effect the next election cycle. The Constitution states that you have to be a natural born citizen of US to run. All this does is make the candidates birth records public as a filing requirement. If this would have been law already, Obama would not have been attacked on this issue because presumably he would have released his birth certificate. Every other office in the US has filing requirements. Why not the Presidency?

I don't like your comment on Otero and Posey. The John Birch Society is a fine organization dedicated to freedom and liberty. I am glad to know that they are Birchers. That means they are patriots in my book.

And by the way, next time spell it right and capitalize it, please.

The problem is that you actually have to work at Panda Express. Beign an economic development person means that you jet set from meeting eating all the free food.

I don't think Wayne spelled anything wrong. Bill Posey an Art Otero are "birtehrs" or people who believe in the conspiracy theory that President Obama is not a US citizen. Also, Posey is doing a horrible job and has done nothing except snipe at healthcare with no answers on what he would do. The guy is horrible.

The John Birch Society... Those are the people who though the communists were trying to steal Christmas to undermine our spirt.... Yeah, quote them.

"The John Birch Society was generally regarded as a crank, far-right outfit whose paranoid conspiracy theories (it believed fluoridated water was part of an evil communist plot to poison America's brains) put it outside the pale of reasonable discourse. Staffers on the ultra-right 1964 Barry Goldwater campaign tried to prevent Birchers from volunteering because they carried the taint of extremism."

Birthers - Birchers, its all the same right wing crap.

So where can you get an application for one of those Death Panel jobs, and what kind of benefits do they offer?

From the Huffington Post:

Florida Representative Bill Posey, the original author of the so-called "Birther bill" that has earned the crackpot fringe its only thin shard of legislative legitimacy, is taking heat from his hometown Orlando Sentinel. In today's editorial, the Sentinel draws a bead on Posey, and quite rightly describes his bill as "ridiculous".

Isn't posey the guy who said he was the legitimate son of an alligator? nutz..

Do some history and figure out which elected "Vice President" of the U.S. never offered proof as to where he was born. Bahamas? Look it up. And as far as Otero is concerned, he talks the talk, but can't walk the walk.

I guess everyone missed the point that the person who was hired for the position was run off with with only a day to go. What went wrong that an "Economic Development" peson didn't have much faith in our area?

Thanks for the heads up. I applied at the city and with P.E.

Who is the John Birch Society and will they bring their headquarters (and jobs) to Kissimmee if Art gets "In God We Trust" on the logo and in the official city Christmas parade?

Who is John Birch?

Put simply, John Birch was a devoted Christian missionary who heroically served in World War II and was killed by Chinese Communists 10 days after the end of the war, when he was only 27. Communists that were supposedly WWII allies with the U.S.

Birch’s parents had been told that he was killed by a stray bullet, but only after accidentally seeing details of his death due to the carelessness of a young military officer. George and Ethel Birch knew that something had gone terribly wrong, and they didn’t even know that there had been an official investigation. For five years, Ethel traveled the country grilling those men who served with John, from fellow soldiers to commanding officers.

Finally, she wrote to California Senator William Knowland who finally was given access to John Birch’s file that was marked "Top Secret." He was so moved by what he saw that he gave a speech on the floor of the Senate on September 5, 1950, berating the government for its cover-up, as the result of bringing John Birch’s death to light could have led to different relations with China and North Korea.

Nearly ten years after Birch’s death, JBS Founder Robert Welch discovered that the death of Captain John Birch had been covered up after reading Knowland’s speech. Welch wrote and had published "The Life of John Birch" in 1954.

John Birch was a simple, but highly intelligent man, who worked hard to serve God, spread God’s word, and fought for the freedom to do so. During his service in the war, he longed for the day when he could once again work the land, raise a family and dutifully serve God, as seen in the prose he wrote four months before his death called "The War Weary Farmer."

Robert Welch explained at the founding meeting of The John Birch Society why he had chosen John as the namesake for the organization. He said, " …the young man I admire most of all those America has produced was a fundamentalist Baptist missionary named John Birch. My own obsession with this fight against the increasing forces of evil in the world, which … has caused me to give up business career and income and any prospect of ever having any peace or leisure again during my lifetime, is due in large part to my admiration for John Birch; to my feeling that I simply had to pick up and carry, to the utmost of my ability and energy, the torch of a humane righteousness which he was carrying so well and so faithfully when the Communists struck him down."

Robert Welch discussed the idea with John’s parents, and they agreed to grant permission. They became Life Members of the Society.
