Greener in Orlando

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Orlando's Station 15, in Lake Nona, will open this week as the first LEED-certified green firehouse in the State of Florida. Orlando plans to open two other certified firehouses in the next few months, and Sarasota plans several as well. According to the city, the SAVINGS in electricity and water costs will pay for the additional green features of the building in approximately 11 years.

So, city commissioners, Orlando gets the marketing credit for "first LEED certified firehouse"...now it's just going to be expected of government buildings going forward. We can't afford it anyway, otherwise maybe we could try for "first LEED certified fountain."

I think that Kissimmee can take the lead with the first LEED certified fountain. Let's make it a birdbath and be sure to put a Jeanne Van Meter plague on it.

WOULDN'T THAT BE GREAT FOR THE HOMELESS WHEN THEY SHOWER? MAYBE JEANNE VAN SNOOTY WILL GO FOR IT. AFTER ALL, ITS TAXPAYER MONEY, NOT HERS.

Fountain girl missed her call. Brighthouse Arena is looking for someone to help purchase fountains.
Yup, Van Shipley will continue to spend our tax dollars as long as she stays in office. The City of Kissimmee should throw a party in celebration of her going away. The County will be in mourning if she wins.

Seriously, is the fountain the only thing anyone has to talk about? What about the massive lay offs at the county where real people are losing their jobs.

To the anonymous post above that questions if all we have to talk about are fountains... These are the things that local politicians have made important topics. They would rather spend money on fountains, than jumpstarting road construction in our communities. As far as people losing their jobs, I would say the only people who do not seem to care are the elected officials who let government get out of hand in the first place. While they have mismanaged their responsibilites to the residents, they have created issues to hide behind that they think will get them re-elected. That is why there is so much talk on fountains!
