All-America Advertising

Where does the All-America City logo appear for an All-America City winner? We recently found the attached ad (click on the picture to the left to see it full size), featuring Publix Super Markets, from Polk County. The ad ran in Business Facilities: The Location Advisor, a trade magazine targeted at corporate facility managers tasked with the responsibility of finding new locations for their companies.

Some quick statistics: the magazine claims that 81% of their subscribers will expand or relocate their business in the next 3 years. The magazine claims 43,000 decision-making subscribers, with 51.6% of their subscribers representing manufacturing companies.

We wanted to point out the commitment required as our local officials consider another run at All-America City. "Win it and they will come" is not enough. As we wandered out to the ad rate page for Business Facilities, we found out the following: A one-page black and white ad in that magazine costs $8,150. Adding color to that ad (4-color process) adds $2,150 to the ad. Thus, we believe the ad costs approximately $10,300 excluding any discounts they may have gotten. If we commit to competing for All-America City, will we commit to publicizing a win correctly?

This is why private dollars should be raised to compete for this award. If private companies are willing to help pay to compete, we would know their committment to follow through and talk-it-up if we one. The problem we have right now is that there is very little loyalty to the Osceola brand. We can not even get the Loop stores to say they are in Osceola. This is one of the reason I am boycotting the Loop. Orange county is not paying for your roads, or the Sheriff's Deputies stationed at the movie theater every weekend.

American and Pride go hand in hand.

I don't care about advertising. All I want to know is if it is All-American for mayors to yell at business people when they get up and ask questions at a commission meeting. What a sad display of egos these meetings have turned into.

With what was raised/spent for the 2007 All-America City roadtrip, they could have bought 8-10 of those ads marketing Kissimmee/Osceola County.

Can we take the money we plan on using for next year's event and make/design our own award logo (minus the cow? Sorry. I had to say it one last time.) And place it on all of our printed material? Do you really think a multi-million/billion dollar company cares if you have a special award? No. They want to make sure you have above average transportaion networks, average educational institutions, affordable housing and qualified citizens to fill key positions.

TRY AND REMEMBER THAT AN AWARD DOES NOT MAKE US AN ALL AMERICA CITY. LOOK AT THE DOWNTOWN AREA AND 192. CLOSED BUSINESSES, SHOPPING CARTS ALL OVER, UNCONTROLLED TRAFFIC. BUT HEY, IF GEMSKIE WANTS IT, IT MUST BE OK TO SPEND MONEY. WAIT A MINUTE, HAVEN'T THE KINGS OF 5TH FLOOR SAID WE ARE IN A BUDGET CRUNCH? AREN'T WE REMOVING FIREFIGHTERS? OH WELL, LET'S GO FOR THAT AWARD.
