That is exactly how it is.... A popsicle stick philosopher! That is the best explanation of what just happend to us, and now we have to get ready for the shakedown!
There were people like you all in Atlanta when the Metro was proposed. Look at their system now. I hear a lot of people complaining about commuter rail but no one has proposed a viable alternative. Build more roads? How do you suggest we pay for that? And where will these roads go?
Complain and put down the current solution all you want, but until you come up with a way to deal with the growth, crowded roads and high price of gas; you just sound ignorant.
I guess the Orlando Metro area will just be a second rate place to live. And the simple folk are happy with it that way.
I guess if you call these folks complainers then you would really hate me.
First, Kissimmee/Osceola county is not Atlanta. Atlanta had many things that our area does not have when their commuter system was proposed. Their system is called the MARTA not the Metro (talk about ignorance). They had a much higher density in the city as well as in the feeder suburbs. This density lends itself to a good ridership which results in less tax money being required to operate the system. The Kissimmee/Osceola that has been created (by our wonderful developer friends and weak politicians) does not lend itself to sufficient income generation based on ridership. So this burden is on the taxpayer with a system that is not useful for more than 90% of them.
As far as your cry for a solution, try this. Stop growth. Shut it down. Moratorium. This gives us time to catch up with the neglected road system that our local politicians have been so good at ignoring for the past 20 years. This gives our schools time to catch up. This gives our community a chance to right the wrongs that have been done. And to save money on gas, I would suggest that we do not add 5 cents to the gas tax to pay for an Atlanta type commuter system.
