Who are your advisors?

We were reading through the Kissimmee commission agenda for next week, and noted that the commission is taking up some proposed advisory board rules changes. Many of the advisory boards will allow non-residents who are stakeholders in the city to hold some of the board positions. Stakeholders are defined as non-city residents who own real property or a business within the city. Interestingly, two boards (Board of Adjustment and Parks & Recreation Advisory Board) are proposed to allow two board members to be non-city residents who are not stakeholders within the city. We're scratching our heads over this one...if you don't live in the city, and you don't own property within the city, and you don't own a business within the city, why would you want to be on a city advisory board? Perhaps the stakeholders description should be amended to add "employed by an employer located within the city limits"? Or is the commission really looking to attract advisors who really have no ties to the city?

Good Point. The County may want to look into this, too. There are some boards that have people on them that truly do not have a vested interest on those boards or the communities they represent but tend to use their position to gain financial and political advantages within this community. A good example would be the TDC. Boy someone should look into that group or at least their Chair. Does anyone have the State Attorney's number? I guess our Commissioners won't do anything because this guy brings their pet projects a lot of outside money. My question is, what do these guys with "Big Hearts" get in return? I know with government you can make public records request but can you do that with non-profits? I only ask because it would be ineresting to see how many of these special interest groups make big donations to the Commissioners non-profits and then compare that to the number of times these same groups had things up for approval by these same Commissioners. I wonder how these Commissioners voted. Example. Home Builders Association...$50,000 to Home for the Holidays (A Commissioner's Project)...now take the number of how many times this group has come in front of the Board and how many times this same Commissioner disclosed his requesting these "Donations" before voting on these those items. I'm not just picking on this one Commissioner, they all have their pet projects except for one who is only out for himself.

DIDN'T SCOTT BROOKS GET IT PASSED BY THE COMMISSION THAT BOARD POSITIONS BE FILLED "ONLY" WITH CITY RESIDENTS?

Yes, it was Scott Brooks, and we are at a point where we need him back at the city.

Bring outsiders back into our boards is just stupid. It just shows that these city commissioners have no support from the residents of this city. They only want to give everything to the county anyway.
